An introduction to time-out

Sophie is no longer responding as well to redirection, so it was time to start redirecting her to a time-out when she is misbehaving and not listening to Mommy and Daddy. We've decided, quite spontaneously, to utilize Supernanny's time-out method. So now, if she does not obey after asking her once, she is sent to a specified corner in the house where she will serve a two minute time-out. Tim actually used this method of discipline this morning with Sophie, to much success, except for the fact she is a bit too willing to go to her time-out spot now. There's supposed to be at least a little resistence, right? And then, right after when she knew she did something wrong, she sent herself to the time-out and told me, "two minutes, Mommy." What? Is she messing with our minds? I let her know it was Mommy and Daddy's job to send her to a time-out and she was not in a time-out right now. She defied me and decided to stay in her time-out for two minutes. Now what? After her estimation of two minutes, Sophie left the corner, came up to me and said, "Say sorry. I'm sorry, Mommy."

Now what Supernanny? Should we just keep up with this and see how she does? Shouldn't this time-out spot feel like some sort of punishment? Sophie seems to be treating this area like it's a trip to the park...and my voice could not be more firm with her. Oh well, either she's duping us big time and is one step ahead of us, or maybe she's such a genius she actually gets it.
